Range Day - 6/9/21

Post by Headhog » Wed Jun 09, 2021 9:13 pm

Took my Marlin 1894 in 45 Colt and one of my 1911's (45 ACP) to the gun club today. Setup 8" steel plates at 40 and 45 yds for the rifle and steel silhouettes at 12 & 16 yds. for the 1911.

I like to play games and switch between the rifle and handgun. I usually start with the rifle loaded on the bench and the 1911 loaded and holstered. I draw and put two shots on the each silhouette, put the safety on and reholster. Pick up the rifle and one shot at each plate (4). It's sort of like shoot the bad guys nearby, then shoot their buddies as they try to get away. It also helps to have the pistol range to yourself when doing these drills.

Overall a very fun day, but I definitely need to work more with my 1911's. Not having shot them in awhile my trigger control was lacking. This was very evident when you are trying to make fast double taps on a target.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I'm always looking, but it was slim pickings, yesterday. Found only about 3 dozen 9mm. I've gotta get that brass magnet working.
