1873 Winchester & Ruger Vaquero fun at the range...

Post by fortyshooter » Sun Apr 18, 2021 6:11 pm

Enjoyed some nice weather and shooting this afternoon with my 1873 Winchester and the Ruger New Vaquero both in 45 Colt.
Also first time using the new target location off to the left of the Bullseye Saloon which allows more target placement and several new steel targets.
The cactus targets and those sneaky Banditos were fun to shoot! Hadn't shot my Ruger New Vaquero in a while so had a few misses with it. The Uberti/Winchester is ALWAYS dialed in...just pick it up and hit what you want. Ammo was my 250-255 gr. bullets with 8.5 Unique.
Was fun to get out on a pleasant Sunday afternoon to shoot! https://youtu.be/BYIuLkj2MAQ

Thanks RR! It does take some work keeping it up but the payoff is it's fun to enjoy! Those new Bandito targets are only 1/4 inch thick AR-500 and I got them for rimfire targets but they will handle up to .45 ACP or Colt any non Magnum pistol calibers. Not even a dimple on them today.
Next project is to start building a bridge over the creek which will be fun hauling some lumber down the trail and thru the woods.

Be glad to have you down here for some fun!

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

That 1873 Winchester is absolutely beautiful and only one miss in two tube fulls. It takes a rifle and a shooter to do that. What distances were you shooting?

Depending on which targets between 25 and 50 yds. Just a good plinking range. Haven't done any mods to the Winchester sights and they still work well for me. Really nice smooth shooting rifle. Shot various loads of some old Winchester brand 250 gr. Cowboy loads....Missouri 250 gr. coated bullet and Xtreme 255 plated and bore was nice and clean when I checked it out later. Now with the Ruger New Vaquero it is a matter of remembering where to hold on target with the fixed sights.

Fantastic shooter at those distances. I just sold a pair of Ruger Vagueros with modified hammers. It was easy to roll your thumb to cock them.

As always forty, no one has more fun doing a shooting video than you. Enjoyable as heck. That '73 really is a shooter, not to mention good looking rifle.
That Vaquero will come around. Sure do like the range additions too. Good one forty!

Yeah that tarp is the cover for the Saloon so I spread it out near where I might be shooting from hoping to catch some brass.
However with the Colt brass being of good size plus a sunny day it was easy to spot them laying around even off the tarp.
