Match Today

Shot and IDPA pistol match today. Brought out one of my 1911's to shoot. That may have been a mistake - well not really. I had a ball shooting, but my score did not reflect the fun I had. Not having shot this particular 1911 in competition in several years, I had several issues. The firearm performed flawlessly more than can be said for the shooter.

I started out with grip issues and was shooting high. I was two stages into the match before I worked that out, only to have a brain disconnect. In the 3rd stage there were 2 targets with potential shoot thru to a non-threats (penalty points). All I had to do was lean a little left and the shoot thru would not be a problem. Guess who forgot to lean left. Final stage again I started with a terrible grip again and dropped more points. So went my day, but it warmed up into the 50's, the sun was shining and I just had a fun day shooting. There's always next month's match to redeem myself.

A great day to get out and shoot Headhog and that's all that matters the fun you had! I was wrenching on my Mustang today and enjoyed it too!

I remember taking my friend in Texas to the range when he was still a teenager. He did miserable one day and I told him to remember this day the next time he had a great day and it will be even a greater day.

C.S. Lewis said ‘without sorrow there can be no joy’.

Thanks Forty. I understand how your effort on the Mustang brings joy.

I used to shoot PPC, and the days I didn't shoot my best, I always learned something, which I used to try and improve the next time around. Don't know about your group, but our matches were as much about the comradere among the group as the competition. Toward the end, the newer shooters were ALL about the points. I was done with the matches then, but still met with the old crowd to shoot. :D

Glad you could get out and enjoy the day.

If it was easy, I suspect a lot of us would be doing something else. It's actually those off days that bring out the tiger in me and make we want to push all the harder.

I had a rough day, yesterday, in fact. Beautiful day, though windy. I decided to shoot one on my best springers, but I just couldn't get in the groove. Groups were not what the gun has done for me in the past. For a minute, I was tempted to blame the wind, then the scope, then the scope mounts and on and on. Finally, I had to admit it was me having a bad day of springer shooting. Just that simple.

As I have dome before when frustrated shooting a springer, I went back in the house and exchanged it for one of my pet PCPs and tried, again. Three ridiculously tiny groups in a row proved it was me not doing justice to the springers. The wind had nothing to do with it. Will get back with that same springer and keep trying. That's the shooting game. I love it.
