Tracking Elk circa 1820...

All this talk about buffalo made me want some meat for the campfire. So I went tracking a herd of virtual elk this morning. Well the elk were real but from a different day, and I wasn't really tracking them, they just wandered by, and I wasn't shooting my rifle that day just a camera.....oh well you get the picture.

50 yds again with my Frontier .50 cal. Back to Triple 7 powder today. I actually went to shoot a competition target from another forum I am on, but remembered everything but the target.... ...so will try again tomorrow.

Starting to get much more comfortable with this long rifle, this is off hand. I imagine these long rifles took lots of elk in their day. Filing the sight down sure made a big difference too. 1 flyer today....just to remind me to follow through!!

You're more than a great shot, RR; the absolute best on this and probably in the top five of every other shooting forum on the web. But, somehow, I think that you're not a hunter. I could be wrong, but with your shooting skills and location, I wonder why not. Just curious.

That TVM Virginia rifle in 45 caliber is a nice rifle. That guy only wants 1200 for it and thats not a bad deal.

Ya I have to wait....I have a secret source for caps that I am hoping stays secret until April, then I will clean them out.... ....about 5600 of them.

Funny today, there was a guy and his teen daughter at the range shooting, she was maybe 13 or 14, hard to tell anymore. She was shooting a .22 rifle (good shot too) and when they took a break I asked her dad if she'd like to shoot the .50 cal. So I loaded it and we set her down with a bench rest, and I showed her how the set trigger worked. Well I'll be darned if she didn't put one almost dead center. But the best part was the huge smile on her face when it went kaboom with the big puff of smoke.

Her dad took a video of her shooting it. Was great fun to watch.

That is a nice rifle for sure. I am partial to the Frontier style, and have my eye on this one in .50 cal...
