45F at the range today and not much wind. My Pedersoli Frontier .50 rifle. Shooting 50gn of Triple 7 powder with a .490 patched lead ball. I am able to shoot many times and only dry patch swab a couple of times here and there. Rifle shoots great. Gave it a good clean when I got home and ready for next weekend. I am getting more comfortable with it, and the ladder sight from Skinner is a big help. Todays results were not bad at all. Love the big KABOOM and the smoke. Also the set trigger was much better after adjustment, not near as touchy. I see a flintlock in my future...


50 yds off hand, this is with the ladder up and the slider at the bottom setting.






100 yds from 1 knee, ladder up and on the first setting, sent 1 over the top and then clipped the top with #2....after that started to figure it out.




Had a blast today....literally!....shoot safe, RR

as we discussed many moons ago during your research into the care and cleaning of a BP rifle, I'm not surprised you've reached this point .... she'll continue to serve you well for a long, long time

RR, you've already moved into the top class of BP shooters with those kinds of targets.Simply amazing.

...as long as there are caps available....luckily I have lots and more coming.

Thank you, it's interesting the gradations on the ladder sights. The Henry is marked out to 800 yds but the 45 Colt, although possible is a rainbow shot I'm sure. Cannot imagine what the point was in marking it out that far for the original .44 rimfire.
The Skinner ladder is just notches with no yardage so it's left up to the shooter to decide what's what. So I am keeping mental notes of what works. Or trying to. All sounds great until the wind goes nuts and then it's get on paper any way you can....

Congrats on the quick learning curve of that BP rifle RR! I guess a 45F day out there is almost a heat wave??
