SGC new front sight...and an addition.
Re: SGC new front sight...and an addition.
Got a stainless Skinner barrel mount sight for the Evil Roy in the mail today...got it installed and headed to the indoor range to get it sighted in (25 yards). I like the longer sight radius of my SGC better, but this is a YUGE improvement over the buckhorn rear sight. Now I want a smaller bead for the front sight, but I gotta get outside first and maybe I'll be able to see better in natural light.
I need to get some plugs for the holes that were hidden under the stock rear sight too...

Having the Skinner mounted that far forward is almost reminiscent of the Scout Rifle that Jeff Cooper defined/promoted 40 years ago.

I agree on having to get some natural lighting. My local 25 yard indoor is almost a clone of yours.
Terrible...just does not work with this combo!

Did you think about the skinner sight that clamps onto the rail of the receiver of that very rifle

Re: SGC new front sight...and an addition.
I did, but that puts the peep a good bit higher, which would mean a really tall front sight. I had to put a .530" on my SGC, I think the rail mount Skinner would need a .570"...maybe it would work with a .530" also, I don't know for certain.
I didn't know the Evil Roy had drilled/tapped holes farther back on the barrel, I would have gone with the screw on mount for the barrel (hind sight being what it is) even though they are almost double the price...for the longer sight radius. I'm still happy with the way I went on this one.

Were you able to keep the stock front sights on your SGC? Mine shot 3.5-4" high at 25 yards with the rear sight bottomed out.

Re: SGC new front sight...and an addition.
Would it not make sense to raise the rear sight then? Or did I miss something...not uncommon if I did☺

My SGC has the same sights it came with I havent changed a thing on it. I have never papered mine. I shoot clays on a bank and have no trouble picking them off at 45 to 50 yards.

Raising the rear sight makes it shoot higher.markiver54 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 23, 2019 10:29 pmWould it not make sense to raise the rear sight then? Or did I miss something...not uncommon if I did☺
