Well I'm going to continue shoot the hotter load and shoot more of the JHP bullets and check the groups and see if anymore keyholes.

You never did say whether or not you were using the Smashers from MB or something else.

They are the 240 gr. Elmer K style bullet.... not the Smashers.

Looking at the second photo the one in the top of the diamond looks like it has left a oval hole in the target so probably not stabilized fully either.
If it was only the one keyhole I would say might just be a bad bullet but the second makes me think probably something else.

Yep. Why the gun manufactures couldn't stick with the correct bore size and twist rate like for .44 revolvers also for the rifles I'll never understand.
Why does .44 Mag in the Henry need 12 rifling grooves?
Also read what most gun manufactures do... a new rifling cutter will make it's first series of cuts to size which may be larger by intention then as the cutter wears down the cut will be smaller but all still within the SAAMI specs. Some rifles might be as big as .432 or as small as .429 !
Jacketed bullets don't seem to be affected as much as cast so they say and most .44 Mag ammo these days is jacketed.

I will get out and compare more cast loads to my jacketed loads using same load of powder soon.
