Re: June 1st, 1860
Funny thing that I just got back from the range where I put a few rounds through my .44 BBB, I was shooting at 50 metres using a 1.5-5x20 simmons whitetail scope.
First attempt using 240 gn cast in front of 10.3 of Vit N340 gave a the beginings of a group although it was difficult to see the crosshairs on the target, I then tried 240 gn copper jacket PPU with the same powder load see picture.
Not the best 50 metre group but in my defence I could barely make out the spot and cross even through the scope and the sighters to get on the target using cast bullets looked pretty good for a group. I will try again on wednesday with both cast and jacketed.

Group looks good but can't offer anything about the scope. As Quigley would say "never had much use for one"...

Great shooting, guys.
RR, I still haven't gotten around to that kneeling position, so there's a great excuse to get the range, right? Given the weight of that 1885, yeah, I think you'll be a lot more comfortable shooting it from a kneeling position. As for the scope thing, there are days when I really do need a scope, now. Those are the kind of days when those iron sights are saying they don't have much use for me.

He also said, "I said 'I didn't have much use for them', not 'I didn't no how to use them'."RanchRoper wrote: ↑Sun Jun 02, 2019 10:16 amGroup looks good but can't offer anything about the scope. As Quigley would say "never had much use for one"...![]()

I think shooting from 1 knee will be the 1885 high wall position. Will try off hand but that's a long barrel out there at 30"...
