Scoped my .44 BBS Carbine

I pulled a Leupold VX2 2-7x33 off of another rifle and mounted it on my Big Boy Steel Carbine and took it to the "chicken poop barn". This is a term coined by a friend for where we sight in rifles and pistols. It is in some bottom land in Eastern, OK. Next to a metal barn are multiple piles of chicken litter that will be spread on farm fields between plantings. While the piles make a great backstop, it makes checking/changing targets quite a smelly endeavor. First rounds fired were about 8" high and about 6" right. By rounds 24-26, I was grouping baseball sized groups at 50 yards. I did have an occasional flyer, but recognized as I pulled the trigger that I was pulling off.

Temps were about 40 degrees with 10-12 mph winds. Given the conditions (smell included) I was happy with the groups and am waiting (not so patiently) to be able to try the scoped rig out on a hog.
I don't reload, and am shooting Sellier and Bellot 240 grain jacketed soft points. I shot a few rounds of Fiocchi 240 grain jacketed soft points and found they hit about 8" below the S&B ammo. Interestingly enough, 180 grain PPU hollow points have a very similar point of impact as the 240 grain JSP S&B rounds out of my rifle. I do keep my brass in hopes to one day begin reloading.

When I get some extra $$ to stock up on ammo, and it gets a bit warmer, I may try to see if I can tighten up my groups. For now, baseball sized groups at 50 yards should serve me well for minute of pig ear shots.

Waiting on good weather here for the same reason. Been windy and/or raining for the last month. Just put a Nikon 3-9x40 on my .41 BBSC, but haven't been able to sight in yet.

Were you shooting from a bench, or what?

To me baseball sized groups at 50 yds is still pretty good.

... see if I can tighten up my groups. For now, baseball sized groups at 50 yards should serve me well for minute of pig ear shots.

Were you shooting from a bench, or what?

I did some "horse trading" of some game calls last fall for a Caldwell field pod.

It may not be as solid as a bench, but certainly more solid than trying to shoot offhand or with a standard bipod type rest. Take a 5 gallon bucket for a seat and you are in business.

When I get serious about hitting a small target I sit in my chair and shoot off of my knee!
I have a couple of those plastic swinging bottles that take a lot of hits and if I can hit them from 50 yds. I call it good.

Baseball size groups from 50 sounds good to me!

Looks like a very acceptable set up to me. I might look into some of those Caldwell products. Thanks.
