I have a 20" Henry .22WMR that I just love. It seems to get better every time I take it out!
Normally I shoot Lever Action Silhouette with it and it does just time with the 40gr CCI TMJ bullets. It has been suggested that I use Federal 50gr at the 100 yard rams - heavier and requiring a touch more energy to knock them down on some ranges.
Lately every time I plan to trip to the range it rains. Its 70 and pouring right now! (rain making services available later in the year!)
So, between work and rain I may not get a change to make it to the range before the next match. How much drop should I expect when I shoot the 50gr Federal in place of the 40gr CCI? (I usually hold on the top 1/3 of the target at 100 yards and 9 of 10 hits take them over with the 40gr...but the 50 grain bullet strikes much lower - just how much lower is the question.
Any help?
Michael

WRM - CCi 40gr vs Federal 50gr at 100 yards
Re: WRM - CCi 40gr vs Federal 50gr at 100 yards
Just going by a rough calc here, but will likely drop about 3" assuming a 50yd zero. G1 BC is .158 and I used a 1580fps mv from a 20" barrel. Don't know how that compares to the 40gr drop in your gun.

I sure wouldn't go to a match, having only used calculations. Do they give you sight in time, before a match? Three or four shots should tell you all you need to know.

I do zero at 50 yards, then I hold on the top 1/3 of the ram target at 100 yard, with the 40gr bullet. But shoot under the whole thing with the 50gr Federal. May be getting a 6-8" drop.
Heavy fog today - can't see 100 yards (one of the joys of living on the Gulf Coast). If it clears up I'll go to the range this afternoon - I don't care if I miss the first of the Superbowl, my team isn't playing anyway.
Will report if the fog lifts. Thanks for the input.

That's an awful lot of drop. More than double what Federal says. You sure there's nothing else going on? Sub-conscious even? Are you using a rest? Iron sights or scope?
