SW22 Victory backyard range

One of the reasons I wanted a .22 pistol was for plinking/practice in the backyard without annoying the neighbors so much with centerfire noise. I moved here a few months ago and someone left a nice pile of broken up concrete and dirt on the back corner at the edge of the woods. Perfect backstop. After playing around with my new 22 for a a hundred rounds or two I find that my old eyes can't really get a full sharp focus on the front sight. It's right on the edge. If I concentrate really hard I can almost get it but then it drifts away. I ordered some +1 diopter safey glasses but I have been wanting to try a reflex sight for a while so I sprung for a Burris Fastfire 3 from a friendly local gun shop. Took me a while to dial in the zero. Seems like there might be a bit of hysteresis in the adjustments. The target is a 5 shot group at 20 yards using the Aguila ammo in the pictured box. I bought a brick of it back when major brands were hard to find. If this pistol likes it that much I may buy some more. It seems to shoot with less smoke than the CCI minimags and Winchester cheap stuff I was also playing with. I shot that group using a rolled up towel as a rest on a portable shooting table. I didn't test the other ammo. Just shot a bunch of it off hand to see if the POI changed. It did a little, but not much. I would bet that flyer was me and this is a standard 1" grid rifle zero target. If you can hold it, this little pistol nearly shoots like a rifle.

nicely done .... having such a place on can shoot in their backyard is really nice .... all too well understood on the eye focus .... looking forward to your continued reports

You've done justice to that accurate 22 autoloader with that shooting. Well done.

My eyes are in the same situation, now. There are days when I can still see the front sight, sharply, and days when I struggle and wonder if I'm just wasting ammo. I've gone to red dots more and more on all my handguns, even my revolvers, with each passing year. The difference a red dot makes for me in my shooting is now significant. In fact, the ability to be able to add a red dot to a gun is now a factor when deciding to buy a new handgun. Not going to alter any of our vintage guns for the sake of adding a red dot, but fortunately, we have plenty of guns that make mounting a red dot a breeze. The Victory is certainly one of them.

And, yes, even a revolver nut like me understands the shooting advantage of a semi auto. That ability to shoot with no disruption of your grip and minimal disruption of the sight picture, shot after shot, IS a plus for shooting, accurately. I call it my semi-auto groove and once I'm in it, I can just keep pouring shot after shot in the bull, almost without effort, it seems. Works for me, rifle and pistol.

The Victory, as well as the Buckmark and Walther Colt government 22, all on my shortlist and all within $50 of each other, but threads like this rwortman make it tough.................

That Walther is a sweet looking gun. Not as accurate as the other two on your list due to slide mounted sights, but a great trainer if you have other 1911's. If I had a bigger budget, I might have one. I'd like to have a Rock FS in 9mm but I can't really justify it.

That Victory is real nice clean looking pistol. The relative small size of the Buckmark looks like it belongs there.
