Cimarron 1860 Henry 45 Colt Apr 16

Beautiful day at the range! 50F with hardly any wind for a change. Shot my 1860 Henry at 50 yds off hand standing. Still getting the feel of the rifle, but a little better each time. The balance and weight are very different from the Big Boy. Shot Remington 250 gr LRN. First few were wide and low, but with the bigger splash targets I bought, I was able to make some corrections. Then things really started to click.
16" target. I must be getting a little more comfortable because I noticed the barrel getting warm, so I'm not hesitating as much while aiming maybe...at least that's what I'm trying to do; just SHOOT.

I agree. Showing some very real potential with this classic lever gun, RR. I also find that the "just do it" thinking is key to good accuracy. It's very much a zen thing. If I stress or fuss or concentrate on any one aspect of shooting technique, all the others suffer. Even thinking "pull the trigger" can do it. When I clear the mind and totally focus on sights and target, the gun seems to shoot itself and I get in kind of a groove where it seems I can't miss. Very intoxicating.

I also shot a few rounds on the 100 yd target board. No point posting the target (same type as the one shown) as all the shots were in the bottom 5U to 6U grid or just below. However, I was happy with the target because there was very little breeze, and I shot with the ladder sight laying flat, just the rifle as is with the regular rear V notch and the front blade sight. Why is this good? Now I know that raising the rear ladder sight and using the bottom setting should put me in the middle or at least closer to it. If it's calm tomorrow I may try it at 100 yds. It's hard to experiment when the wind is blowing 50mph or more, so I consider today's 100 yd shoot a success.

Here it is...clean as a whistle....but my truck has 4 flats and hole in the rad, haven't seen the neighbor's dog for a day or so, the wood-stove chimney pipe looks like Swiss cheese and my horse is in therapy.
