Blackhawk at the range 1-27-17

Post by ditto1958 » Fri Jan 27, 2017 11:06 pm

I've been shooting my Blackhawk Flattop Convertible a bit recently. I have the blued 5.5 inch one in 357/38 spl. It's "convertible" because it comes with an extra 9mm cylinder.

Today I had some handloads, as well as a box of Herter's 158 grain fmj ammo I planned to shoot up for the brass. Most of my handloads were my "go-to" moderate 357 loads, 158 grain Berry's plated bullets, with 10.9 grains of Accurate No. 9 powder. A few of them, however, were hotter. I had some Hornady hollow points, and used a coupla more grains of No. 9 in those. I had some broken up clay pigeons on the 25 yard berm, and it was fun to hit those clay shards. Ball ammo breaks them up into smaller pieces. The hollow points, however, give much more satisfying results. Hit clay with one, and the piece just vaporizes.

It was a good day at the range this morning. A little cold, but sunny. That Blackhawk just may be my favorite handgun.

Hey, good for you. We went to the Wausau gun show, today, so no shooting. We have two Blackhawk Convertibles, the Flat Top 357/9mm and the Blackhawk 45 Colt/45 auto. Be lost without them. Right up at the top of our favorites, too.

The 45 is on my list. Only problem is my list is way too long. :)

Mine, too. The 45 Blackhawk is a real hoot when shooting 45 auto. Very accurate.

Targets? What targets? :)

I don't know about NCG, but I was shooting at steel and clay birds.

Good to hear you are able to get some range therapy time. It has been so long for me that I am starting to to have withdrawal symptoms.... twitching in the trigger finger and uncontrollable blinking of the non dominant eye. :D
Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday. ;)

Same here. Been a couple of months. Once I get back to the range, there will be nothing left of that target board but kindling. :)

Sounds like fun Ditto. Thks.

I have one as well a Bisley Stainless 5.5 inch barrel. I wish it was the 4 5/8 barrel but I still like it just the same. It shoots very well with the 45 acp cylinder especially with some 200 gr swc. Al
