New 45 ACP load test....22 rimfire test... and carbine fun !

Post by fortyshooter » Tue Nov 14, 2023 6:51 pm

Wanted to test a new 45 ACP load using the Hornady 200 gr. XTP bullet vs. the 230 gr. XTP load I normally use in the Ballistic Gel block. Also I wanted to see if anything was going on with my Uberti 12 shot 22 LR SA revolver as the last time I had it out it was shooting low left.
Then for plinking fun I brought my 45 ACP Hi Point carbine in Bullpup form and really like it in this setup.

I was using 6.5 gr. of Unique in the new 200 gr. XTP load same load I use with the 230 XTP which performs really well. What brought this on was I was out of the 230 XTP bullets and getting low on the loaded ones so I found the 200 gr XTP at my LGS as they were out of the 230's. So loaded up 25 to test and results in the gel block show I like the 230 XTP the best with full expansion and 16 inch of penetration. Now the 200 XTP did that but with a bit less expansion but did not group as well on paper. The pistol was my BBR 3.1 1911 by Rock Island and it is a great shooting little brute! I did find some 230 gr. XTP bullets online and ordered 200 of them and will add those to the supply. Just like those 230 gr. XTP's!

Next I got back about 20 ft. from my paper plate target and sitting in chair shooting off my knee went to shooting with the 12 shot Uberti 22 LR revolver. Shooting the CCI Mini Mags I quickly found there is NOTHING wrong with how the thing shoots and it likes the Mini Mags the best as you can see! Must have been me that day I couldn't shoot it straight! So then I went back 15 yds. plinking away on the steel....what fun!

Also had a unique plastic target that really wasn't made as a target....the red container top of a humming bird feeder cannister that my neighbor Dave gave me 5 of. Man what a great target as it looked like the hits would self heal. Even two hits of 45 carbine would not kill it!!! Fantastic cheap target!

And then wrapped up the session with the 45 ACP Bullpup ringing the steel from 15-45 yds....fun gun to shoot that keeps on with no issues!
