NCG, years ago I had a Ruger 3 45-70, and it was a punisher with heavy loads. With age comes wisdom, and now most all of my 45-70 shooting is with black powder substitutes, and my rifles are pure fun to shoot. The Ruger 3 is long since gone from my stable, however.

I do understand, now that I'm only shooting for fun and not using a 45-70 for hunting. I got very lucky at a recent gun show and picked ups three boxes of those Remington 405 grain 1330 fps loads. Been awhile since Remington ran a batch of those, so not easy to find.
