Range Report: DA breaktop H&R Sportsman

Post by Sir Henry » Mon Oct 03, 2022 3:28 pm

I’m really liking rimfire plinking. This breaktop is easy to load and shoot and the Quiet ammo is accurate enough to hit the spinners up close. Plus I don’t make a lot of noise.

I inherited this pistol from my father-in-law.

Nice looking H&R Gene. Looks like it's in good condition for it age. I believe H&R closed up shop sometime in the late 80's. Fun little plinker.

That is a nice one there! Do you load 5 with that one? I also like to shoot the Quiets in the revolvers and Henry rifles.

It has some holster wear and that’s about it.

It’s a nine-shooter.

Love the H&R. A shooting buddy had one back in the day. No target gun, by any means, but tin can accurate. Loads of fun to shoot.

I’m not claiming it’s a match shooter but it does have adjustable sights and this one in particular has dispatched thousands of rattlesnakes. Russ and his neighbor Bert would go out on weekends and shoot them. A good weekend and they might shoot a hundred each. He once told me “maybe we shouldn’t have killed them all’.

This was the pistol taken coyote hunting too. We would call yotes up close and then shoot them with 16 gauge No 4 buck. If they didn’t die instantly this was able to kill them from five feet away.

I have an old H&R DA revolver not a breaktop. I think it’s a 689 or something like that. Anyway something broke inside with the pawl as it is way out of time. Was a decent shooter, but probably not worth it to get it fixed.

Parts for them aren’t terrible expensive and they are easy to work on.

Love the look of the grips. They show lots of honest use, kinda like us! :D
