hello everyone , stovepipe Steve here ,imma newbe to the forum as my son recently purchased me a brass Henry big boy 45 colt. Just getting started in cowboy action and completely love the idea of it. From Knoxville TN born and reared my entire life. He to has a 45/70 government that we have been enjoying shooting. Well until recently I might say. I have been doing some of my own reloading to save some money on ammo plus waiting for when SHTF come November. Any how I loaded some extra rounds for him also. While firing it one day I noticed that the lever and the action locked up on it. Wound up having to use steel rod to remove the brass cartridge from the chamber. It had swelled up some when I got it out. I feel I have done something to it or damaged it somehow . Has anyone else ever experienced that and if so what did I do to it and the fix? Steve welcome to the forum. The stuck case could have been many different things. Working up loads I have had sticky extraction but the only one I had to drive out was faulty brass. Did the rest of your loads perform well? Was it possible to throw a double load which you would have noticed from the recoil and noise. A little more info on the load might be helpful.

i think it is indeed necessary to check a certain number of points:

- What is the powder and reload used?
- the primary, is this a standard "large riffle", NOT a magnum ?
- How many times has the case been recharged? 1 , 10 , more ?
- very strong crimping or not? (but unlikely to be the reason)
- brass or lead bullet ?

The feeling of recoil may be an indication of the reason.

In principle, if all the elements are in the standard, the most probable is indeed a faulty case.

on all of the 45-70 ammo that I fired, with the full reload scale covered, I never had this type of incident.

welcome to our forum, delighted to have you join us .... have you fired any rounds since removing the stuck case .... if you still have that case, take a look at the primer .... does it look normal or is it partly pushed back out of the case .... is there a noticeable mark on the primer end of the case where it may have hammered back against the bolt face .... can you directly compare it with other recently fired cases .... if yes, what do you see/feel .... be sure to follow the link below to where you may add your family's Henry rifles to our community's total
