Caliber suggestions?
Newbie here. My father is hellbent on buying me a Henry (I know… and not a bad place to be if he can find one – good guns are hard to find nowadays). Not sure on what I want so I’m seeking suggestions. It would be easier to list what I have and don’t want:

Have:
Marlin 60 (18 round .22 LR semi-auto)
Smith and Wesson M&P15 (.223/5.56 semi-auto)
Mossberg 500 (8 round 12 gauge pump)
H&R Model 88 Topper (20 gauge single)
Smith & Wesson SD9 pistol (9mm 16+1 semi-auto)

Don’t want:
Another shotgun or .22

I don’t hunt much anymore so targets will probably be the only thing I shoot. Leaning toward larger/more common calibers, especially with the current ammo shortage.

Welcome from Nebraska. You will receive numerous suggestions here. We are somewhat opinionated. If you go to centerfire, the lever guns start at 327 mag and go up to 45-70. I shoot the 357 and think it is the best all around. Others will disagree. Have fun choosing and using.

357 for your first Henry is what I chose and don't regret it one bit. very easy on recoil and a lot of fun. Also, ammo is usually easy to find.

first, welcome to our forum .... do hope you will feel free to read and post often .... for out to +/- 100 yards a 357 is a very good choice .... should you decide to load your own ammo, a 357 can be relatively inexpensive to shoot .... another great plus is they are fun to fire .... should you be looking for a Henry to shoot at a distance of a few hundred yards, their 308 Long Ranger is a great choice .... looking forward to following your search

Welcome to the forum. Im a die hard 41 mag fan but if you dont reload the 357 in the best all around choice for a first levergun.

only good advice above ... !!

I chose a 45-70 because it was a historic caliber and to please me, but also because the 357 is legally complicated in France.
I didn't have permission at the time.
and henry rifles are very, very hard to get here ...
today I think I will choose a 357.
the 45-70 is nice but it hits hard, and the trajectory is really rounded
It is also more expensive to recharge ...

Welcome from NY. My love is my .3030 but if that's not an option I will also go with the .357 . I got myself the Henry X Model 357. Definitely worth a look. Good luck.

Welcome from Ca. The .357 rifle is a very good choice, especially if you can get ammo. I really like the .45 Colt rifle, but, .357 should be a bit easier to obtain. And cheaper than .45 Colt in factory ammo. Whatever you decide, you'll like it!

Welcome, I'm also new but I love my 3030. It's hard to go wrong with a 3030, or a Henry for that matter.
