Hi everyone. I just recently joined the Board. I am looking at getting a Henry Lever 22 H001 and recently ran into this.... a used Henry H001 in a pawnshop that appears to be in good condition. A couple minor scuffs and small nicks in the stock. According to Henry it was made 12/2/2016. has no box or papers Gun only. Pawnshop asking $250 but will take $225 lowest they will go. Is this a good del? I can get a new one at Wally World for $278.

For an extra $50, I'd go for the new one.

The H001 is a great rifle and Henry would take care of the used one if there were any mechanical issues, but for the small savings you'd get at the pawn shop, I'd opt for a new one, too. Let us know what you decide.

Welcome from Colorado. Lay 175 cash on the counter and tell them thats all you have. Id buy a new one for that little difference.

It looks like the pic I uploaded is gone and that is okay. Thank you everyone for the feedback. I was thinking that with the used one if I shot it and it got dinged I wouldn't care as much as a new one. I think because the used one out the door would be $239 and the new one otd is $297 the $58.00 difference in price I will get the new one.

Welcome to the forum and congrats in advance on your new Henry. Like those above, I'd say you made the right decision. Depending on where you live and what retailers are around you, you might even have the ability to preview and few in the store and take your pick, based on the the wood characteristics, which Henry is known for. They're all good, but some have more character than others.
Many Henry dealers will show up at some of the larger local gun shows, as well.
If that's not in the cards, just find a good deal on one online and see what you get! Either way, you can't go wrong!

Welcome and agree that unless you can get it for $175 to $200 tops, I’d go new.

Ditto on the choice of going with the new one. This pawn shop may be setting on this one for a while at that price. It might eventually move at $200 but thats still a stretch IMO.

Personally, I like the trim and handy H001, but it definitely a personal choice.

Not sure there is much in terms of pros versus cons on these two models, Retired C.O. Both are Henrys, and are the foundation of their rimfires.

I have a .22LR in a yet different model, but that was my personal choice. What you like is the key factor. Following would be the only decision I'd need to make, because the prices are really quite close and not a major concern.

They are strikingly similar other than the one major difference -- the octagon barrel on the H001T. Your choice would be based on "looks." This barrel definitely has a very cool appearance to it; but the round barrel looks fine also. Attached to the octagon barrel is that the H001T is heavier by 1.25 lbs. Although 6.5 lbs. total, the H001T is not a heavy rimfire rifle. The only other difference I can see in the rifle stats is that the H001T has an OAL that is 2" longer.

The first Henry I ever shot was an H001 with the round barrel, which my son-in-law let me have/shoot for a couple of years. Lots of bullets went downrange, accurate, and it was a lot of fun. I now have an SGC with an octagon barrel. Again, lots of bullets go downrange, accurate, and it is a lot of fun.

So, which do you like better --- a round barrel or an octagon barrel?

As PT7 notes, the biggest difference is weight, so start with that consideration, especially since neither model comes with sling studs, making mounting a sling a bit more complicated.
The second consideration is the front sight; the 001 has the hooded front, while the Frontier has the standard blade/brass bead. If you can hold both and experience both of those sight pictures (and evaluate the weight difference), the decision would probably be pretty easy for you.
Can't tell you what that decision will be, because, as also noted above, this all boils down to personal preference and comfort level with differences in look and feel.
Side-by-side handling is always best if you can make it happen!

Go back to the pawn shop and drop two bills on the counter and tell him its your final offer on the Henry.
If he takes it problem solved.
If not buy the new one with the octagon barrel. You decided on the new one anyway so just take it to the next level and you wont be disappointed,

First, welcome. I came across this link that offers prices of firearms. From what I gather, a H001 in fair condition is valued at $150, and a H001 in very good condition is valued at $325. Since you mentioned dings, the very good price would not work for me. But, that is a relative thing. I would probably do as the others suggested if the price is not closer to $150 and buy a new one.
