Henry Rifle Forums

The first Henry I purchased was a H004ES EagleScout edition as a gift for my nephew who was being awarded the Eagle Scout rank. It was such a beautiful work that I wanted one for myself. I got the H004 for myself as a plinking gun. I soon discovered that Henry builds guns that shoot as good as they look. My most recent purchase is an H006C .45 Colt that I plan to hunt deer with. I bought a Leupold 3-9x40mm scope to put on it.
Searching for the right round to hunt with is what brought me to this forum. I will hunt this season with the .45 Colt if it performs as well as I think I plan to get an H010AW in .45-70 for hunts where longer shots are required.
I have narrowed my ammo search to two manufacturers, Double Tap and Buffalo Bore. I will have to test the ammo from each at the range.

Congrats on your new Henrys! As you said, they really are both beautiful and great-shooting rifles.

I've not shot either .45LC or .45-70 calibers in a rifle yet. But as far as ammo goes, I've shot both Double Tap and Buffalo Bore hunting rounds out of my Henry BBS .357 Magnum Carbine. I'd go with either brand for whitetail deer hunting...good ammo. Another hunting round (for me) is Black Hills Ammo...I've used that the most, and it's quite accurate out of my rifle.

I'm certain other Henry Folk will chime in our your ammo question. Also search and check out other Forum threads on ammo.

I live in Gastonia. Plan to hunt a private farm in Allegheny county near Sparta.

we live south of Raleigh .... the area around Sparta has some good deer hunting .... from what I've seen of that area, except for some farm fields most shots should be well within the range of your 45
