Hey all!

I just joined this forum after having bought a Henry .45-70 Big Boy about a week ago. One of my sons and I went to the range at Ft. Bliss and brought everything that we had, two different .45-70s, a 5.56 Tavor, and two 9mm autos — to say we had a ball would be an understatement.

I'm a reloader — for the expensive ammo anyway — so the .45-70s shot my reloads, 30 grains of SR4759 behind Nosler 300grain ballistic silvertips, a nice easy load on my 72 year old shoulder but still pushing at about 1500 fps. The Henry performed almost flawlessly, the lever-action feeling a bit sticky at times, but after 50 rounds it was better, just needing a break-in period. I'll say nothing about the accuracy, since I'm going to replace the sights this coming week, other than it definitely has potential. In my opinion, nothing beats a good peep sight, so I have a Williams FP on order and the appropriate Williams fire sight blade sight.

I have admired the brass Henrys for years and when I saw this one in a local store I couldn't resist — as well as a fine shooting gun it's also a work of art! Me and this rifle have a fun future ahead of us...

Thanks for the welcome folks! I'm really enjoying the Henry .45-70 and am thinking about my next Henry, a .44 mag or .357 mag.
