New Guy, New Henry .22

Greetings and Salutations,

Thanks for letting me post here. As Groucho used to say, "I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member."

I've recently added a Henry .22 Small Game, 20" octagonal barrel with the Skinner Peep Sights. I call it my "one of each" collection because I don't want one of everything. I have one lever rifle, one Glock, one AK, one AR, one .22 cowboy revolver, one .22 tactical pistol, one 1911 in .45, one 1911 in 9mm, one optic pistol, etc, etc. You get the idea. But I digress.

I never realized how much I would enjoy shooting this lever rifle, the smoothness and accuracy is all that I'd hoped for. The peep sight is perfect for these old eyes and I'm shooting really tight groups from a rest. I'm still futzing a little with the rear sight adjustments but I'll find the proper section to ask those questions.

I'm pretty much out of windage adjustment, trying to get the ragged hole group a little more right. I've had only two indoor range sessions with it, none outside yet. I'll try to tweak it some more so I can make you guys proud. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Ha! Well, since I'm still setting in front of my computer, I noticed your replay. Thank you.

I like to call myself an "old noob". I seriously started training, practicing, and building up my little armory just five years ago. Now I'm on Medicare but I'm fighting this age thing tooth and nail. I'm having a blast keeping up with whippersnappers 30 years my junior.

I have learned a lot but I know I still have a lot to learn. I know enough to know I don't know enough. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Welcome. Small Game Carbine is a great 22 to have alot of fun with. I would think you could drift the front sight a little to get what you are after target wise

I've noticed that forums of this type do tend to be "enabling". I know if I have too much fun with this Small Game rifle, I might just get talked into a bigger one.

Thank you very much. Yes, this unit is very enjoyable. It's a great looker too. I've been to the range with it only twice and each time someone makes an admiring comment. Pretty cool. Thanks for the welcome.

Thanks for having me. I'll try not to be the FNG and do a search before I ask questions. ;) Seems like a nice place.

Welcome from MS. As for enabling, I only have 2 Henry's. A BBSC in .41mag, which was my deer getter for a few years - don't hunt no more. And a .22mag Frontier. Both great rifles.

Thanks! I can already tell this rifle was a good purchase. I was wondering whether to futz with the front sight at all. Remind me, do I need to move the front sight in the opposite direction when adjusting the POI?

Thank you! Yes, this one just checked all the boxes for me. Is "SG" part of the nomenclature? Can I use "SGR" as shorthand for the Small Game Rifle? ;)

I hope you guys don't talk me into buying a .357 magnum.

Thank you! I'm trying hard to resist another caliber platform. I'm already stocking five different cartridges. I suppose if I went .357 magnum I could use that in a Henry and a revolver. That wouldn't be so bad, right? Don't tempt me! ;)

Drift the front sight to the left and that should help you with the hittin to the right

Lot's of guys pair rifle and pistol, so you'd be in good company. Here's mine, the .41mag Henry with Ruger NMBH. Bought the Ruger long before I picked up the Henry.
