Owner of a Golden Boy and recent owner of 30-30 Brass Reciever. Grew up in the Northwoods, Dad handed me a Marlin Lever action at age 12 and carried that till younger bro came of age. From 18 yrs old on carried a bolt action 30-30 Revealation, knock off Savage I think from Western Auto that I've had since '77. This will be my first deer hunt with the Henry 30-30. When purchased I struggled with buying the brass reciever made in NJ vs the blued version made in my home state. Never dated the prom queen so I bought the beauty of the Brass. No complaints.
Bought the Golden Boy 2 yrs ago as my X-mas gift. Indoor at Gander 30ft I enjoyed the percieved acurracy. Spent most outdoor range time toying with a Ruger 10/22 takedown scoped or a sub $200 Marlin XT22, and let the HGB be another safe queen. Decided recently I don't need a safe queen so I started taking HGB to range the past 2 weeks. With little effort the Xt 22 is a blast at 40 -50 yds, the HGB shoots a 1-1,5 ft high no matter the rear sight elevation,or lack of. My next trip out I plan to ask an RO to give a try to make sure it's not me. And no I won't give up on the gun as my son's initials are HGB. Might be his only inheritance :). Sorry if it's TMI on member intro.
BTW, I'm comfortable with the 30-30 out to 50 yds. as I'm not likely to get a shot over 100yds where I hunt.
And I'm a lover of bolt and lever action, iron sight long rifles.
Gunnre? because the best pheasant hunter I've had was a black lab that went to the happy hunt 15 yrs ago.
