I have always been a fan of western movies and loved the rifles. Finally got my pennies saved up to buy a Brass Lever Action .45-70 Side Gate. Took it out to shoot it, and the first bullet jammed. I found this sight and I hope I can get some help. So far I contacted Henry twice and no one has got back to me. Thank you for letting me join. Bob

Bob,
Did the spent casing not eject, or did a new round not load into the chamber? This can happen if the lever is short cycled. New Henry rifles need a fairly hefty "handshake" with the lever.
Welcome to the forum and I'm sure Henry will be in touch.
Jake

Welcome Bob from Western North Carolina. Glad to have you aboard.
Congratulations on that new 45-70. There are many members here that own that one and I'm sure they will have some suggestions for you. In general, these Henry levers require a full cycling of the lever. I experienced this when I first bought my BBS 357. The problem however, was me.
Hope you enjoy the forum. Lots of great people here.

Adding to the suggestions. My mistake was tilting the rifle to the left because I wanted to watch ammo eject and feed into the chamber as the lever was cycled. My rifle didn't like being tilted. Would eject fine but would choke on the next round coming up the feed ramp.

Welcome to the forum. Both comments about a firm handshakes and no tilt are good advice. Let us know how it goes.
