New Henry owner

Post by SteveR » Mon Jun 27, 2022 6:27 pm

Hello everyone, I've been owing and shooting firearms for a little over sixty years but prior to a few weeks ago I only owned one lever action, a Marlin 366, that I haven't fired in about 15 years. I've always wanted a Henry rifle, and a 45-70, but a couple of months ago I happened across a Henry H010B at of all places Wal-Mart, at what seemed a pretty reasonable price. To make a long story a little less long I'm now the proud owner of a new Henry 45-70 that I absolutely love. I plan to mainly use it for a little plinking but mostly for hunting feral hogs. Although I'm pretty knowledgeable about shooting and reloading in general I'm inexperienced when it comes to lever guns and a total newbie to shoulder fired cannons so I hope to learn from the group.

Thanks in advance for any help Ya'll can give me, Steve

Hello and Welcome aboard Steve, no 45-70 here, but there are quite a few here that do.
Reloading for the lever only differs in that in tube magazines, pointed bullets are a no-no.
Well unless you go with the Hornady ftx bullets.

Welcome from So-Cal Steve. Ditto what Vaquero said; others with a .45-70 will chime in soon enough. Levers are where it's at! Enjoy the forum.

Hey Ste. Welcome from Nebraska. That 45-70 is indeed a Canon. It Will do the job. I shot JEbar's once. I'll stick with my 357. Enjoy your rifle and time on-site.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Welcome to the forum. I’ll stick with my 29 grain sub-sonic rimfire shorts. My days of centerfire are over and I salute you for still being able to fire a shoulder cannon.
