New Rifle Owner
Just yesterday, i finally managed to track down a Henry Big Boy X 357, which i've been looking for for over a year. This will in fact be my first gun i've ever owned, and i did a lot of research to choose it. I'm hoping to have a lot of fun at the range in the near future. I'm from western Washington, and the shop i bought it from is almost an exclusive Henry and black powder shop. In fact this particular shop bought out the Hawken rifle company and still produces new Hawken rifles even now, which was a bit of neat history.

Congrats on the new Henry. You must be close to Oak Harbor and speaking of the Hawken Shop. Welcome to the forum there are quite a few in here from Washington State

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: New Rifle Owner
Welcome from Nebraska. My Henry was the first rifle for me too. It’s a great way to begin.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

Re: New Rifle Owner
Lets see, if you care to visit it, the shop where i purchase my Henry is "Greene's Gunshop", its a great little place. At the time i purchased it, the owner Greg actually had a second X in 357, so if you are relatively nearby, and can't find one, he HAD a second.
I did manage to get one box of 38 special from him, though no 357 , not yet, though i ordered some on backorder, who knows when it'll actually arrive, but seeing as i was looking for this rifle for as long as i did, i can be patient easily enough.
I don't have many questions yet, though i will have more later on, but the first one i wanted to know is, would dry firing my rifle damage it in any way? My friend who owns many suggested i do so if it is not harmful so i can get a feel for the trigger, but suggested asking first to make sure it wouldn't be harmful.
Additionally, what tools would you suggest for maintaining my Henry? At my friend's suggestion, i have cleaning patches, gun oil for cleaning and protecting, and one of those bore snakes (if that's what its called, can't remember for sure), but that's it so far.
