Greetings from Virginia

Post by Enoch Jones » Fri Jan 15, 2021 6:03 pm

I love to make those steel targets ring so I bought an H010x in 45-70 and a H012CR in 45 colt. Then I asked Google where I could find a group of folks that like big slow bullets and Google sent me here. I have been lurking for some time, picking up tips and tricks and I thank all of you for your generosity. I am off to a pretty good start and look forward to the road ahead.

We know you are out there dude. Welcome from Nebraska. I like your choice of rifles.
Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

JEBar - for me reloading for the range is like tying your own flies for the trout stream, one is almost as much fun as the other. I am working up from light loads (300 gr Hornady HP over 35 gr of RL7 for 45-70 and 255 gr lead Hornady cowboy bullets over 8 gr of Unique — thanks fortyshooter — for 45 Colt.

I have a couple of 45-70 rifles also being a Marlin 1895 GS and a 1885 High Wall. I like the 405 gr. cast lead bullet with 13-14 gr. Unique for an all day plinker which still has some punch. For the .45 revolvers try 6.0 gr. of Red Dot with a 230-255 gr. cast bullet If you can find it. Nice accurate load for plinking! But I do still use the 8-8.5 Unique loads . Enjoy your range time!

I'm doing the same with 300 g Nosler Ballistic Silvertips pushed by 44 g of IMR4198 .... I hope to be able to get to a range within a few weeks and see how they behave out to 100 yards
