Swiss Chard

Post by daytime dave » Sun Jul 04, 2021 12:15 pm

I have always had Swiss Chard boiled my whole life. Just like spinach. Dad grew it, mom cooked it.

Fast forward to this years garden and I grew some. I found a simple saute recipe. I liked it. Coriander was the deal maker in this one.

Take your amount of Swiss Chard, wash thoroughly.

Separate the stems from the leaf portion. Cut the stems into one inch pieces. Heat some olive oil to medium heat. Saute the stems for five minutes, stirring often. Add some chopped garlic and a very few red pepper flakes or similar heat. Saute for three to four more minutes on med-low heat. Add the leaf parts, cut into one inch strips roughly. Saute them for two minutes to wilt them down. Crush, grind or add whole about 10 to 12 coriander seeds. Saute for ten more minutes more or less until the leaves cook down and the stems are tender. (If you left the coriander whole, pick them out)

I didn't use any salt or pepper with this and found it perfect as it was. Coriander was the secret. It pairs really well with the Swiss Chard. This was a portion for one.
