Blackstone Griddle Review

Post by Sir Henry » Mon Sep 21, 2020 12:54 pm

I’ve cooked a couple dozen breakfasts for myself on the griddle however I didn’t feel I’ve used it to it’s full potential to make a review.

That changed yesterday when I fed 29 people at a social distancing birthday party.

I fired it up a half hour before the first pancake was to be cooked so it was fully up to temperature. The grill was also up to temperature.

It was too much for me to operate both cookers and serve 29 people so before the first pancake was cooked I had a volunteer to operate the griddle while I cooked pork chops on the grill and another volunteer served the food and drinks. Then another volunteer started mixing batter. My point is it took two people just to do the pancakes as fast as the 36” griddle could cook them.

This was the first time the griddle cooked more than one pouring of batter. The cook later said he never adjusted the temperature from where I set it. It’s amazing how quickly it can serve that many people. The pork chops were lagging in comparison to the pancakes.

My concerns about the adjustments not being fine tuned turned out not to be a problem and it functioned perfect making pancakes. With everything going on we forgot about eggs so none were cooked. Corned beef hash was also cooked but didn’t get fully browned until the very end and few people ate the hash.

Overall I would give the griddle five stars. The only thing not tested was time and it’s not known how it will perform after a few years of service. My guess is it will just become more seasoned and function fine.

I cooked a couple pork chop on the griddle today. I don’t think they tasted as good as those cooked on the barbie. They cooked in their own juices which made them greasy yet they were dry in the inside.

Cleanup also took longer or required cleanup right away. I use the same tools on both.

I like being able to sweep the debris to the back. Grease also runs for the drain.

that sure brings back memories of cooking in family restaurants .... I spent time each day cleaning our large griddle so that was ready to go when we opened the doors the next morning .... the video in the link below pretty well sums up the way we took care of ours in the restaurant

I never used water on mine or in the Army. I tried it and liked it. I have one of the strubbers like he used and use it for light cleaning and the scraper blade for heavy cleaning just the opposite of how he cleaned.

I recently bought a 17” for traveling. Just got back from a trip to the big woods of northern Maine. It was nice being able to cook home fries, bacon, and many other things in a remote hunting camp with no amenities.

I think my dad and brother will be buying one for home use too.
