we've used a Bass Pro Shops 2-Burner High Output Propane Stove ===> https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pr ... pane-stove for so many years that I don't have a clue when we purchased it .... if we are camped for more than a few days, its almost always setup beside our Holland Companion Grill .... as such it customarily sits out in the open for 6 or so months a year .... without a doubt, its been the best camp stove I've ever owned/used, it is powerful enough cook in very windy conditions .... when I set it up on our current trip, it was clear that long term exposure to the elements have taken their toll .... both ceramic igniters didn't work and rust had compromised one of the burners .... my first inclination was to order another one but in looking at the Bass Pro website I found for $10 more they offer the Bass Pro Shops 3-Burner High Output Propane Stove ===> https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pr ... pane-stove so I decided to give it a try .... when it arrived I noticed several things ....

POSITIVE

having a low pressure burner should come in handy for simmering

the high pressure burners are identical to the ones that worked so well


NEGATIVE

biggest concern is none of the 3 grates over the burners sit squarely on the stove surface .... left, center, and right grates shown below in pictures 2, 3 & 4.... as can be seen the left grate is the worst .... the legs of the center and right grates are not touching the ruler .... I immediately called Bass Pro and told them about the issue .... the fellow is supposed to contact their supplier on Monday or Tuesday and have them send replacements .... hopefully arranging the replacements will go smoothly

the old stove had a push button sparker .... you have to turn the red knob shown in the second picture to create a spark .... its pretty tough to turn

the overall length of the two is about the same .... having a third burner doesn't mean you can use 3 medium to large pans at the same time (cooking surface shown in 1st picture)


FIRST IMPRESSION

as I told the Bass Pro rep, I don't want the stove replaced because the burners all work well .... once the grates are replaced, it should do a good job .... the 5th picture shows the first food cooked on the new stove ...

Is it made in China?

UPDATE :

following a few conversations with customer service reps of Bass Pro, the decision was made to ship a replacement .... as promised, Bass Pro overnighted a replacement 3 burner stove that arrived today ....I'm happy to report no issues with the cooking grates and the burners perform as advertised .... the pictures below pretty well tell the story .... outwardly, it is identical .... all 3 burners fired up instantly and burned as they should ... the discoloration comes from burning all three hot so as to burn off any chemical or other coatings .... the left/center/right grates are stable .... used it tonight to power a Coleman Camping Oven .... the center burner works well with the oven ... it bakes the outside of an Irish potato crisp/crunchy while leaving the inside perfectly cooked ... so far, so good .... in fact, very pleased with the replacement stove

Looks like a win in the end.

that's the way we look at it .... Bass is a good company, has been for the decades we have purchased from them .... as mentioned the first Bass Pro, two burner, high output stove we bought turned out to be the best camping stove we've ever owned .... it was disappointing to see the poorly fitting burner grates on the 3 burner .... I must admit I was a bit apprehensive when I opened the second box that I'd find the same problem .... thankfully, all's good

that you Sir .... the use of a Holland Companion and a camp stove has served us well from way back in our tent camping days .... we've used a series of Coleman two and three burner stoves powered by "white gas" or "Coleman Fuel" .... three of them are on shelves out in the garage .... they performed well but they simply can't perform on the same level as the Bass Pro high pressure stoves .... to make this work for us, we have modified our camper's propane system .... the first picture shows our 40 lb propane tanks .... we inserted a "T" connection in each hose that take propane from the tanks to the regulator ... on the bottom of each "T" we connected a shutoff valve ... from those valves hoses are connected to another "T" , from that point a hose takes tank pressure propane to a quick disconnect with a shutoff valve (picture 2) .... from there a the propane flows to "Y" to which we can run either or both the grill and stove (picture 3 - grill, picture 4 - valve) .... with this mod we don't have to carry an additional propane tank to run the grill and stove .... this mod also makes it possible for us to operate our portable fireplace and any other propane appliances

FURTHER UPDATE :

well, the sparker in my stove mentioned above in the post made on Sun Jun 17, 2018 12:28 pm crapped out a month of so ago .... lets just say, I now know for a fact that the stove isn't designed to be taken apart .. .. on our way back home from South Dakota we looked for a replacement at the Bass Pro in KC but they were sold out .... yesterday we drove to the nearest on to our home where they had 2 in stock .... when we got home and took it out of the box, the same grate problem shown in post 1 was very much in evidence .... today we drove back up there and returned the stove .... right there in the isle of the store I removed the remaining stove and found it to be OK .... it will probably be a few weeks before we get to use the newest stove for the first time

well, TIME MARCHES ON ..... in looking back over the 3+ years since we switched to a Bass Pro Shops 3-Burner High Output Propane Stove, its been in the camper's basement every second that its not been in use .... its also not been used very often .... it is bulky and requires taking along an extension propane hose .... a significant related change has also taken place .... that being switching from a propane burning grill to an electric, pellet burning grill/smoker .... for cooking inside our camper our OEM 3 burner propane stove/oven is still heavily used as is a NuWave PIC Gold 1500W Portable Induction Cooktop Countertop Burner ===> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O5 ... UTF8&psc=1 .... my wife has converted almost all of her cooking pots and pans to those that work with the NuWave .... in the last couple of years I've cooked outside on it considerably more often than I have on our propane stove .... we've just ordered another NuWave like the one in the link above .... it will be used at home and the one it replaces will be moved to the camper .... where it will become my standard one used for outdoor cooking .... for the times more than one cooking eye is needed, the one kept on the camper's kitchen counter will be moved outside .... with the vast majority of our cooking using electricity, our camper's propane supply should last longer .... another side benefit is freeing up storage space in the camper's basement

Resurrection ....

well, our absolute and final (subject to change at any second) decision to retire our Bass Pro Shops 3-Burner High Output Propane Stove https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/bass-pr ... pane-stove has been rescinded .... the negatives that motivated us to move it from active service to an honorable retirement all still apply .... as do its positives .... our decision to move to a NuWave induction style cook top is still our primary focus .... while it has proven to do a really good job, as with most any item, it does have some negatives .... among them are

1 ... it can only handle one pot/pan at a time

2 ... it will only work with pans that have a bottom a magnet will stick to

3 ... because can't handle exposure to rain, it cannot be left out when not in use

the fact that it burns CG electricity and not our propane strongly motivates us to use the NuWave as much as possible .... today I used it for the first time with a 1 lb and I learned that burning one of the higher powered burners on high can freeze the propane in the bottle

UPDATE :

over the years we've used propane, gasoline, electric, alcohol, Coleman fuel and even charcoal burning cooktops all have positives and all have negatives .... a half dozen or so years ago we added using NuWave cooktops .... as noted in multiple post in this thread, they require the use of magnetic pots, pans, griddles, whatever you use to cook in .... as such, cast iron works well ..... over this past weekend I fried some burgers on a coated, cast Iron griddle like the one below ..... ordered it from Amazon ===> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00C2C0OYG?psc=1& ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details .... haven't used it yet but am looking forward to doing so .... our hope is through using it in connection with the grate in our Ninga grill and our electric griddle we will be able to cook for a considerably larger number of folks while traveling

on travel days, 7-8AM

non-travel days, considerably later

last night Maureen used our NUWAVE Cast Iron Grill (link in a post above) for the first time .... to do so she grilled inch+ thick pork chops hand cut from a pork loin purchased at Sam's .... they turned out really good .... true she could have used a pan to fry them on the same NuWave Induction Cook Top .... the difference she really likes in using the grill is the food doesn't sit in grease while cooking .... as advertised, the grill proved to be very easy to clean
