Estimated value? modified Remington "old" army 1861

Hi
I Got offered a "original" Remington Army 1861 cal 44 from a friend of mine, its probably not something for a collector, but its a really good shooter. The edges of the octagon barrel seems a little rounded so its probably polished and reblued at some point but the text on the barrel is pretty sharp and it says: "Patented Dec. 17, 1861/Manufactured by Remington's Ilion, N.Y." all in upper case. Its a late model of "old army" the serialnumber is 9xxx and it matches on frame, triggerguard and barrel, however its seems like there is missing serialnumber on the cylinder. I wouldnt be surprise if some of the internalparts are changed aswell. It has the frame with the barrel threading visible, the cylinder has no safety notches. The barrel have the "dovetail" front sight, the loadinglevel has the "cylinderpin stop". The mainspring is original, the grips are modified and probably not the original ones but it looks pretty cool, never seen this kind of modification dont know if its common or what its called? Ive only seen it in a hurry and got some pictures sent to me.

What would the value be on a gun like this?

They are some tough ole pistols, guessing only, 4-500.
Really nice ones go for 6-900.

Ok thanks for info, I have decent knowledge of originals but not when they are modified like this. Then I think I have to pass on this.
