Cased Navy Colt with Buttstock
Cased Navy Colt with Buttstock
As I could never get a "real" Colt with a buttstock, much less than a cased one, I decided to make a case for the reproduction one I had. I found all the extra accessories from flea markets, junk stores, and a couple of gun shows. Used special material from Joann's (it's not velvet but forgot the name). Everything had to be not quite perfect to give it more of a period look. Thought I'd share some photos and can explain how to make your own if anyone's interested. It's a great way to store your black powder guns and makes an great conversation piece. Just add some decorative corner pieces and and old lock/hinge. Hardest part is configuring the inside layout with whatever items you have and having them fit the right way, but it's pretty easy:

A friend reproduces them and sells them on Etsy. I think they can be found on ebay, too. I've done a few using different labels he has. Colt had a few different styles of them. The last one I did I used a label that was just the instructions and no illustrations on it. As soon as I have a good box, I'm doing a case for a Remington Revolver Carbine. He has those labels, too. Do a search for Navy Colt on Etsy and you should find him.

If you have an old wood box that will fit your pistol and would like to try to make one, let me know and I'll help you out with how to start.
