Would be pretty smokey in the house, but yes would be better than a rolled up newspaper though.
I did killed a deer a couple years back with one of mine.

Thing to do is order the matching conversion cylinder for your revolver like .45 Colt for a Remington 1858 .44
Then you can shoot low end Cowboy Action ammo or loads at same pressure limits. A 200-250 gr. lead bullet wadcutter the best at 750-800 FPS
will do the job.

Re: Black Powder Revolvers for Self Defense
They worked pretty well in a SD roll about 150 years ago. I have a .44 Navy Colt replica that I shoot occasionally and if push came to shove and none of my other modern weapons were available or functional I wouldn't hesitate to put it to work. But if things got that bad, I'd have to save my last ball for myself.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Re: Black Powder Revolvers for Self Defense
I got one for my 1858 for Christmas. I took it to an indoor range and the revolver shot very well. I liked the recoil, it seemed higher than the BP (actually BP substitute) loads. The groups were very good. The gun was easy to clean.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 3:21 pmThing to do is order the matching conversion cylinder for your revolver like .45 Colt for a Remington 1858 .44

Yes, I feel armed and safe with it at the ready. I would not care to stop one of those big slugs myself. I like it for defense because it has a natural shootability some modern handguns lack, being small and DA only.

Just out of curiosity, did the indoor range fill up with smoke?
