I have an original Burnside Carbine (Civil War Era) coming and from the pictures on the website it look quite good. I do Civil War reenacting and it should make a nice display piece.

Ah, sure glad we found a Civil War re-enactor on the Forum, Rudy. I think there are a number of Folk here that would really enjoying viewing your photos in uniform, of your firearms, and maybe even a video or two of any battle scenes performed.

Tell us more. Do you belong to a re-enactment group? What Civil War history do you present when you all get together? Do you wear Blue or Gray? Very interesting era of U.S. history.

The FFL shop where I've done most of my firearms business, James Country Mercantile, supports many of the Civil War re-enactments in the Kansas City, MO and Lawrence, KS areas. It describes its business as a "sutlery offering a full line of historically accurate goods, custom sewing, research, consultation, and associated services." Although the shop isn't a person as was a sutlery, it's a cool connection. I've spent quite a bit of time looking through their large variety of Civil War stuff, including many of the firearms they service and sell there.

Living practically on the state lines of KS and MO, there are a lot of chances nearby to see Civil War re-enactments. One I'd like to visit someday is here in northwest MO, and is called the "Missouri Irish Brigade of Civil War Reenactors." Their web site lists their purpose:

"A living history organization founded in 1995 to portray the Irish and western federal soldiers of the often overlooked Missouri Irish Brigade. Our field impression is of the Consolidated Battalion 7th and 30th Missouri volunteers, a veteran unit as it appeared during the fall of 1864."

I might check it out this year. Looks like they do some cool stuff.

I finally received it and it sure looks like it will be ok to fire, however since it is over 150 years old maybe it will only be fired once or twice. I will just have to see how it goes.

Finally getting around to answering your post. I belong to a unit that portrays the 20th Maine, Co. G. and we are part of the American Civil War Association (ACWA) here in California. However, I am getting somewhat old and don't run around in the field anymore. What I have done it set up a Signal Corps Telegraph display. I like telegraph as I am also an amateur radio operator and will be using the Burnside more as a display. In addition to the carbine I also have an original cavalry sabre and am saving up the money so I can buy an original 1860 Colt Army revolver.

I'm doing that "getting somewhat old" routine myself, Rudy -- so understood! Still great that you're involved. Sounds cool setting up a Signal Corps Telegraph display; pretty needed part on the field during the Civil War.

A couple of nights ago I watched my very favorite Civil War movie titled "Glory." The TCM channel was doing a series of films highlighting the acting of Denzel Washington. The historical accuracy of that movie is what makes it doubly interesting for me. And from the production side, the battle re-enactments performed were simply astonishing!

BTW, I also don't have access to Flikr photos. Sure would like to see your photos.

Thanks for sharing your hobby and the telling of the Civil War gun and weapons you own.
