One day....I'd like to own a black powder revolver. This one. Anybody ever shot one?

years ago I owned a Model 1858 New Army .44-Caliber Black Powder Revolver ===> http://www.cabelas.com/product/Pietta-M ... 731695.uts <=== fit and finish was OK, seemed to be solid .... problem was, accuracy .... I might as well of been shooting a smooth bore musket .... I'll be the first to admit that the fault may of been mine, I simply never get the hang of firing it .... for me it became a curiosity that took far more time to clean than I ever spent shooting

I have a few BP revolvers and they are a hoot to shoot. two Walkers, a First Model Dragoon, two 1858 Remingtons and two .31 Cal Remington Pocket Revolvers. Of course they are all reproductions, but fun nevertheless. Oops, I forgot that I also have a 1851 Navy and a 1860 Army.

I found no need for a Walker since I only a target shooter ...... The 1858 Remy in 44 was my gun of choice when I shot in the matches all over the USA . There is very few guns that can beat a BP revolvers when it come to accuracy . The 2 guns in pic below are the 1st and only time I shot these 2 guns and also the last time I shot them . These are not cherry picked targets

Very nice shooting Tx. I had one of the second generation Colt 1851 Navy revolvers. It was one of the most accurate handguns I have ever shot. The open top Colt design was sighting in for about 75 yards. The range where I shot it was only 25 yards so I would hold for the bottom of the paper and the .375 round balls would go in the black. I would not pick A Walker replica as a first cap and ball sixgun. A friend of mine had on and it was like holding a brick.

Gunrunner what is 15 grains IC of W?

I have a whole bunch of Black Powder revolvers Two Walkers which are a hoot to shoot, two 1858 Remingtons, a Colt1860 Army, First and Third Model Dragoons, 1851 Navy and two .31 Caliber Remington Pocket Pistols. All reproductions.

I would love to take one of these to a bp smith and get it converted to a 5 shot .50 cal. I've never shot one, but I know a thing or two about em'. Overall they're really neat pieces of history and super useful for those hunting in bp only areas.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they are both made by Uberti and are likely the same firearm, just a different importer. I'm sure you'll enjoy either of them.

Yes, they are both Uberti models. The Pietta manufactured 1851 is even cheaper at $257. From people who own them, they are not finished as nicely as the Uberti, but work fine with the exceptions of caps blowing off the nipples and locking up the action. Apparently an easy fix by changing to a different nipple. Haven't heard that being as much an issue with the Uberti, but don't know enough about them yet. http://www.taylorsfirearms.com/hand-gun ... steel.html

The 2 Ubertis I own are top notch quality, fit and finish. Shooters too. I looked very closely at Pietta revolvers before I purchased my Uberti. I had a chance at a gun show to handle both and compare. The Pietta was ok too but the action was a little clunkier and the fit was not quite as fine as the Uberti. I was comparing the Pietta 45 colt peacemaker with the Uberti 45 colt Model P peacemaker. I ended up with a Cimarron Uberti 1871 Richards open top.
