Back in the 70's I was into black powder and made rifles and pistols from Dixie Gun Works kits. I have a pic of some I made somewhere and if I can find it I will post it. A couple years ago I thought about getting back into it again, simply as a pastime. When I checked Dixie, I could not believe the prices of kits . So that thought went bye bye real fast.

Supply and demand, I guess.

since Thompson Center discontinued their 50 cal Hawken I figured their value may go up .... it seems the price of kits has and factory made ones are still all over the board ....

If you ever get near Union City Tn STOP in Dixie Gun Works it is well worth the drive . I've been in the store 100 time and I spent 2 hours in there every time I go there . There is 1000's of original muzzle loaders too see plus there car-museum too .

I have built custom penn. longrifles for many years. I used to pay around $250.00 for the best of the best back in the 70's and now the same grade of parts will cost around $1000.00. The last one I made a few years ago cost me just over $900.00. They were all flintlocks. I did make a percussion longrifle back in the 80's and it has fewer that 100 rounds through it. It was for those really bad weather days hunting. Now as I get older those same bad weather days are spent on the couch at home. LOL I have shot many deer with a Flintlock.

well understood, a while back I found the same thing .... with today's prices its highly likely that my 40 +/- year old TC 50 Cal Hawken will be the only black powder rifle I'll ever own

Here my flinter I scratch built . Only hand tool use to make it .

I have a few longrifles here and still shoot them at local shoots. Back in the 90's I used to shoot with the NYS flintlock team. We would go to Kentucky and shoot every year as well as Penn.
