Considering buying a black powder pistol for fun.

Couple questions:

1. Can I give this a try without hurting myself?
2. Which pistol should I buy?
3. Do most outdoor pistol ranges allow black powder?

All I know is the Cimarron 1847 Walker Colt is a beauty! Look it up.

Thanks RanchRoper, it seems the 1847 Walker is a popular option. As are the 51 Navy, 60 Army and 61 Navy. I'll probably end up picking one from that list and giving it a try.

I'm surprised we don't have more black powder enthusiasts on our forum. Seems like something our Henry fans would like!

I have also wondered about the practicality of owning one of those. I guess in the end, there are other guns I wanted more, and limited cash.

I would also like to know more about BP revolvers, though.

I like the idea of ordering one and having it delivered right to my door with no paperwork, even in California!

Makes sense considering loading the thing will be very difficult. Looks like a 10 minute job to get 5 shots!

I have been interested in them for a while but can't get to a range where I could shoot. The range I shoot at is indoor so no black powder allowed.
Texas Gun Runner hasn't been around much lately. He has built some very nice guns.

Mine is the 1860 Colt Army, but the later cartridge conversion. It's an awesome shooter and feels really good in the hand, so I'm sure you'd like the black powder one. And who doesn't love an 8" barrel?

I like the single shots better as there easier to clean. But if you can find a deal on one which isnt easy the Ruger Old Army is hard to beat. Al

I haven't pulled the trigger! I've been too distracted lately.

A few Pietta models are on sale at Cabelas though. Don't know much about that brand but they seem popular.

I have one and it feels like a million dollars but I've never shot it.

That's a pricey one. Mine was under $200.

I've owned many Pietta guns and they all shoot good but show early wear . [ in pic below ] If you do a lot of shooting get the Uberti the fit and finish is must better and the parts are heat treated perfect and don't wear out . I don't know if Pietta has improved in the last 10 yrs .

Hey TGR thanks for dropping by the thread! Appreciate the post about Pietta vs Uberti. There is a significant price difference but it seems the Uberti may be worth it.
