Post by John E Davies » Thu Nov 26, 2020 9:25 pm

I saw this in a local classifieds, “like new 99+% condition”. $150.

I really prefer the Civilian version with a nickel guard and grip frame, like this one

but OTH I like the brass too.... Is there any way to date an Italian reproduction? I know Pietta had issues 20 years ago, I watched a 45 minute video tour of the factory and was impressed. I think a recent one would not be a risk. I would only shoot it once in a blue moon, mostly I love the style of the 1861 and would use it as a desk ornament. I built a Dixie Gun Works Remington 1858 kit around 1970. What a piece of junk. I am sure they have improved.

Naturally, I found my adjustable measure, powder horn, nipple wrench, possible bag etc etc etc when I made my last move four years ago and donated it all! I would have to start over, from scratch, to shoot it.

What do you guys say, jump on this gun, or pass?

Thanks for any comments.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Thanks, I decided to pass, I ended up spending a ton of money on lithium batteries for my RV, I did not have anything left for what would essentially be a pretty desk ornament. And I really prefer the silver accent rather than brass, I will get a new one eventually.

It has now sold, BTW.
