Not trying to offend to each there own. I dont have any inline muzzleloaders at my house. Im a traditional guy. I dont shoot sabots or anything that resembles a bullet in my muzzleloaders. I just like the old side lock flint and cap. When I stuff mine its with real black and a round ball. Like I said not at all trying to offend its just me. I know there are alot of the inlines out there and they have a big following.
Oh heck! I take no offense at all. I found this place and stuck around because it’s totally supportive. Nothing but a friendly heckle now and then. Tons to learn. And ya’ll do some pretty cool stuff. I should apologize anyway - kind of highjacked a thread. Guess I got excited. I’ll blame it on the upcoming hunting season.

Anybody shoot any of the shorter barrel scout or cub versions? 28" barrel? How's the recoil?

Since the title of the thread is about Black Powder I dont nor would I think anyone else considers it a Hijack at all to ask or include the inlines. I love talking about the Black Powder guns. Besides Ive been trying to enable North Country Girl for awhile to get her to shooting some BP again.

Haven’t shot those particular guns but I have shot a Lyman Trade Rifle with a 28 inch in 54 caliber and its mild.

Lots of guys like the Lyman Great Plains rifles. Because of the Hawken styling. I do to and own one in a flint 54 caliber. But I also really like my Lyman Trade rifle. It has a single trigger and its a good trigger. It also comes in flint. It gets overlooked alot in my opinion but its a great handling and shooting gun. I changed out the front sight on mine because Lymans front sight blade is thicker than I like. Bought one from track of the wolf.

Here's an interesting twist...looks like have to buy black powder in stores, don't see any that will ship it. Might be tough to find around here.

Where/how do you folks store your black powder? I keep my plastic jugs of Universal in a locked steel cabinet in the house/reloading room. We don't have A/C but even now with it 90+ outside the plastic jugs are cool, and I leave the lids loose to prevent pressure buildup. But BP is a little more volatile I imagine.

The more research I do the more I am leaning toward a percussion model. I can get BP substitutes, caps and lead balls all online and shipped. Much easier, as actual Black Powder is only in Calgary 3 hrs away. The flintlock is cool, but just not practical for me. There is a dealer for Pedersoli in Alberta and I have them checking price and ETA on this rifle in .50 cal...all reviews I have read suggest that Pyrodex (readily available) shoots fine in caplocks, but not in flints. Still old school which I like, and acceptable should I participate in any BP or rendezvous type stuff. Won't get the true BP smoke and aroma, but can always try some if I want to later. It just gives me options.

High Wall adventures coming soon, then maybe some old timey mountain man shooting to follow at a later date... :D
