Ok, for starters, I ain't doing the search thing. I'm to lazy for that which is why I ask, if anybody has come up with the magic to remove lead from a bore. I mainly shoot cast bullets and up until I bought a good bore scope did I discover that my bores are not completely free of lead. I think I have tried just about everything in my past 50 some years of cleaning rifles and pistols but I have not found anything to make that chore easier. I am here to pick your brains.

I use a couple of different methods. First is get some chore girl at Walgreens. Make sure is the copper one. I destrand it and wrap it around an old copper brush. That works like a cheap Lewis lead remover. I also us some Kroil with it. Second good old lead cloth will get alot of it out. Lastly I dont shoot much lead anymore. Copper plated are as cheap as lead and I dont do all of the above.

I only shoot lead. Hoppes, bore mop, copper bore brush, and patches keep mine clean.

I don't shoot nearly as much as most on here. Nor do I own a bore scope, just a bore light.
When I clean, using whatever, be it #9, Ballistol etc., I soak the barrel and let it sit over nite before proceeding the following day.
As far as I can tell, my bores look shiny and clean.
As I said though; I don't shoot a lot at one time.maybe 50 rounds give or take through each gun. I don't even clean them after every outing.

How does the bore machining look? If rough, fire lap the gun, followed by a good polish with Bore Butter. That will really reduce any leading and also make it much easier to clean.

This is a real PITA to do, but the results are worth it if your barrel isn’t great to start with.

Dang, a lost post. I'll try this again. 50/50 mix of Hoppes#9 and Kroil. If something is really nasty, "Wipe-out, Patch-out" works well. Let's see if this one gets thru.

Yep partner, that one got through. Thank you.
I use the 50/50 mix of Hoppe's and kroil myself and even let it sit in the bore overnight. Still seems like a slow process no matter what, even after I run my Chor Boy wrapped on an old bore brush. I read somewhere about the Wipe out but have been trying to find out more about it and where to buy it just in case I read that it is just that good.

No doubt. I learned a long time ago that any solution doesn't work very well unless you let it sit in the bore so it can do it's job. Rushing it, just doesn't work but lead is a tough one to attack. My bore light shows an extremely clean and shiny bore but the bore scope shows something completely different.

As long as I still see shiny lands and grooves, and patches come out clean, and I have good accuracy, then I'm not gonna worry about it.

A couple thousand rounds through the Henry...thorough clean every 100 rounds or so.

I really like the bore mop it picks up lots of lead. I also was not aggressive enough early on with the copper brush but now I scrub it back and forth many times and it seems to loosen things up better.

I would have never thought that of a bore mop. I've only ever used them in my shotguns. I might have to give it a try. I am quite aggressive with my bronze brush though, almost to the point that I think I might wear my bore out.
BTW, you have a good looking rope horse there.

I have heard of doing this and that it works good.

Update guys and gals. I received a tube of that Blue Wonder and tried it for the first time. Just follow the direction that come with the tube. The stuff works pretty good for removing powder fouling and most of any lead problems.

I have shot cast bullets , mostly my own , in several calibers of rifle and handgun starting in 1969.If you are getting a lot of leading when you shoot , I would think that there is something amiss. It could be the alloy , or more then likely what the bullets are sized to.Have you slugged the bore?
