My father in law is in his eighties and doesn't shoot anymore. He has some long guns that are in desperate need of TLC.
Can anyone recommend what to use to clean the wood stocks? They're grimey and tacky/sticky.
I think moisture got to them.
Should I just strip and refinish them?
Advice please.
Site seems to be working OK.

Re: Cleaning old guns
If they are just tacky/sticky, and not scarred or dinged up, I would first try just a good wood cleaning product like Minwax wood cleaner.
Was he a smoker? I used to be and hated how tar and/or nicotine would collect on wood and give it that tacky/sticky feel.
It will come off relatively easy with the right product, and not damage the wood.
