Just curious what others would recommend for cleaning, scope mounting and various other gun care tasks. What is a good brand and features I should look for. Have a birthday coming up and the wife wants some ideas. I think this is what I want.

our all around favorite is a "Tipton 110011 Ultra Gun Vise" ====> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N7 ... UTF8&psc=1 .... versatile, very solid .... strong grip on long and short guns without marring the stocks

Thanks JEBar, I saw that one online. Looks like a good do all platform. Just wanted opinions before the purchase. Now I have a better idea which to put on the B-DAY list. BTW, do you happen to know if it can be adjusted high enough for lever down/open breach ?. Want to clean from muzzle sometimes so I don't have to remove lever.

we remove the lever and clean like we do our bolt actions .... I have worked on our Henry 44 and could open the lever

Thanks!... seems like it will work either way then. Should work for my other rifles and handguns as well.

Bought this as a rest but don't care for it. i do use it to hold the gun and it's not bad for that, at $25

Those look cool. I use a little shop-mate work bench and just lay a towel over it. Not real hi tech but it works. It clamps the rifle in place with the lever open. Easy. Its in my saddle shed. Coffee, tunes and cleaning....

Most times, I place a mat on my lap while cleaning my rifles. I use a rest to place them on for soaking or taking a break. But, a rest did come in handy while aligning a scope with a bore sight. Since I do not have a shop to work out of, a rest does make a difference while working in the house.

Those Tipton vises look pretty good. A little pricey and maybe overkill for me now that I've thought more about it. Since I also love woodworking, I'm considering now making my own. Might be a fun and relatively easy project. I have plenty of materials and the right tools so maybe it makes more sense to save my money for gun stuff and lots of ammo. Kinda on the fence about this.

Something I bought came with large foam blocks as packing. I cut a notch in the foam to keep the Henry upright while working on it.

I use this with my BBB. Cheaper and less complicated than the Tipton vice but not nearly as many features. I like it because I tend to stay away from plastic items when I can get something similar in metal.

Thanks Dave, something to consider. All for the metal as well especially after reading the reviews on the Tipton " Best Vise ".

I use a mtm range box for what you describe.
Store most of my cleaning gear in it so dont find myself hunting for the right sized brushes and patches nearly as often as i used to.

Now that looks very cool! Where did you purchase it and can I ask how much you paid?

I got one these a few years ago. They are sold under different name and brands. Usually as a kit.
I searched "Wooden gun cleaning kit".
I use it to clean the barrel and mount scopes.
It stores all my cleaning equipment.

WOW ! I love the look of wood and the drawer at the bottom. Now I'm really confused as to what I want to do. Thank you all so far for all the pics and info. I am certainly not new to guns ( as I do have several ) , just getting back into it as a true hobby at 64 yrs old and my love of woodworking as well. That box IS pretty, and functional. Thanks again for taking the time to share Ojaileveraction !! Retired with plenty of time on my hands.

Not to be a tout, but HRA sells something similar in their official Henry websight products section.
