I see some folks using this for gun lube. Thoughts? It is certainly cheaper and I don't think Rem Oil lasts very long before needing it again.

Here are two previous threads in which Mobil 1 is discussed.
Cannot remember if there are more than these in our Forum "archives".... you might try some searches, RR.
BTW, one of these has a link to an outside article on using Mobil 1.

while using it may be OK, unless left with no other choice, I wouldn't do so .... for our firearms I tend to stick with products designed for their use .... further, I'm prone to be pretty picky about which of those I will use

I doubt I would try it. I don't want glow plugs on my Henry for winter....

After learning about Ballistol on the Henry Forum, I pretty much use it for all gun cleaning duties - even the wood stock get wiped down with it. I also watched a Hickok45 video on gun cleaning and he seemed quite satisfied with it.
Just my 2 cents.

I use oil designed for firearms as well but have been known when lazy to grab my clock oil applicator off my workbench.

Amisoil on the inside and Ballistol on the outside.
