Looking for a vise for cleaning and general gunsmith work on my 45-70. What are you guys using and/or what do you recommend? Also, any cleaning tips? Henry's website vid has the rifle being fully disassembled..

I pulled down my Big Boy Steel in .357 earlier this year. It had well over 1000 rounds through it at the time. Was fairly clean inside. I found the video was extremely helpful. It's not very difficult with the aid of the vid. The only issue I had was I couldn't get the trigger screw (I think it was that one) far enough in to engage the threads. I took it back apart and finally figured out how to get things to line up. After messing with it about 20 minutes, I restarted the video, and he explained the easy way to get it to line up. Go figure. At least I will know next time.

I have a Lyman Revolution rotating vise that I sometimes use. It depends on what I'm doing. It isn't suitable for any heavy work like barrel unscrewing etc, but for simple disassembly jobs etc it's OK.

I use my lead sled for most of my workings on rifles, works for what I need, sure makes scope mounting much easier.

Glad you like your Lyman. I got my buddy one for Christmas. Wasn't sure which model to get, but figured he needed one. This one looked like the best one available locally. I haven't gotten any feedback from him on how he likes it.

Well I've just got the Henry for rifles at the moment. Was looking for a vise like they have in the Henry vids. Thought being that would work the best for cleaning and any minor work. Unless someone with more experience has a better idea..

Not a vise but I got the Tipton Gun Butler a while back and found it to be very handy. It's heavier duty than it looks, holds the guns steady, and has places to organize you screws, etc while you're working. I didn't think I paid $30 for it though, but it's worth it.

I've had the Lyman for about two years now, and it has been excellent. It is still in one piece, with no broken components etc. As said previously, it isn't really designed for heavy work, but for cleaning and minor gunsmithing work it's great.

Pick the one that matches your rifle. They didn't have one specifically for the BB steel, I think I used the one for the BB.
