Finish on Henry Rifles

Post by exile » Thu Jan 05, 2017 8:21 pm

Question; I have seen brass hold up well from the factory until I polished off a protective coat that was applied at the factory. I have a Case knife that looked good until I started using brass polish on it. From then on I had to polish regularly to keep it looking good.
Would that be true for the Henry rifles as well. I haven't yet, but I have considered using Flitz polish on them, but I don't want to start something that will never end. I have used Renaissance on them, but it doesn't really remove metal, just provides a coat of protection.
Do these rifles come from the factory with a protective coat (lacquer) that would be removed if used?.....TIA...........Tom

first, welcome to our community .... I'd suggest you call Henry's customer service and ask them straight out how they recommend taking care of the brass .... I do know Henry sells "Henry Big Boy Metal Polish" at this link ====> https://henrypride.com/collections/clea ... 3444982214

Hi .... welcome to the Forums from Runcorn, UK! :D

It depends what rifle your talking about. If it's a .22 Golden Boy, then it isn't brass. It's a coating that is applied over the Zamac 5 receiver cover, and it is possible to 'polish' the coating off.

The centrefire Big Boys etc are solid brass. It might be possible to apply a coat of clear lacquer to protect the finish, and stop it from tarnishing. As JEBar has suggested, a call or email to Henry should answer your query. ;)

I have used Flitz on my brass Big Boy.

Welcome. I just wipe my Big Boy with a cloth and it will age however it wants to! Nothing wrong with some miles on it... :)
