I take the stock off at times. But, you only have to remove the lever and bolt to clean from the chamber, which is what I typically do. I typically remove the stock to clean and lube the trigger and hammer assemblies. I started taking off the stock, because that is recommended how to clean my Marlin. I figure that it may help with the wear in of the trigger assembly.

Henry's website should have a video on cleaning, disassembly, reassembly. I followed that when mine started to bind, and afterward it was smooth as silk.

I clean from the chamber end and then every 5th or so cleaning I pull the stock off. Seems to work pretty good for me.
