For the front of the cylinders on my two stainless revolvers I use a little stainless polish and it makes appear to be unfired.

A lead Away cloth and a Pink Pearl eraser works a charm.

I just rub the cylinder face with a little oil on my thumb. Don't see any need to go hog wild on it.

On stainless, I just clean it with a brass bristle brush and brite bore, then clean the discoloration with mother’s mag polish. Use a short bristle brush like a .22 cal bore brush. It’s easier to control the surface you’re cleaning so you don’t scuff up the sides of the cylinder. After a few times, the front of the cylinder becomes very smooth and is easier to remove the carbon.
