Shotgun magazine tube

Post by Oldbrass » Fri Mar 19, 2021 5:36 pm

My nephews Remington 870 20 gauge quit cycling shells. The outside looks pristine but inside not so. Inside magazine tube total crust and rust. Swabbed with 40X bore cleaner then swabbed dry, ran a few patches soaked with oxpho blue then gun oil. Replaced the gouged up plastic magazine follower with aftermarket aluminum one and new spring. Now runs like greased lightning, The kid learned how to disassemble and properly clean his shotgun. An hour well spent and ready for next duck season

Glad you got that sorted out 'brass. I haven't tried 40-X yet, as I've found either straight Kroil[let soak for a while], or a 50/50 mix of Kroil and Hoppe's #9 works pretty good. I will keep 40-X in mind tho; always good to learn something new. Thanks.
