I did my first tear down post hunt since it was a sloppy mess during our second gun season in Iowa. This was on the H006 .44 mag. There is a grease in the locking bolt/spring. I worked around it this time since it was still clean, but for future reference, does anyone know what type of grease this is? It kind of looks like white lithium. Anyone know for sure?

I don't use any grease in our Henry rifles .... all lubrication comes from a thin wipe of Ballistol

Same here. Ballistol inside and outside and done.

I use Amsoil cleaner and oil they work excellent.

I generally only use grease on fast moving semi-auto parts. Sometimes I’ll use it as glue to hold a bearing or spring in place till it can be properly affixed.

Remoil is my preferred oil which I use vey sparingly. The inside of a firearm isn’t like a crankcase and doesn’t need five quarts.

OK, sounds good. Next tear down I will clean that stuff out completely and just use a light lube. I would like to say "Henry put that in there for a reason" but I have been in manufacturing engineering for 25 years and stuff we do in the factory doesn't mean its good for the field.
