M1 Maintenance

Went to the range today with my M1 Garand. Had a problem with engaging the safety. So when I got home I disassembled the trigger group. Sure enough there was a sliver of brass that had jammed in by the trigger pivot pin. It was pushing the trigger over and making the safety almost impossible to engage. Clean, regrease, reassemble and now working the way it should.
A little cleaning goes a long way.

Yes indeed. And when I'm gone my oldest son gets it. Just a little something for his 6 years in the Marines.

He's gonna love that. I have some fond memories of the first M1 I ever laid hands on - Ser.No. 4260356. Had a tigerstripe stock that I spent hours rubbing in BLO on in boot (1963) and knew the proper nomenclature of every part and could reassemble it in under 2 minutes blind folded. Also earned my first Rifle Expert badge with it. The finest battle rifle ever invented.
PS: Tell your son Semper Fi from this old Marine.
